CREATE 2010: Checking out
By Rui Guimaraes
It was the workshop´s last day. A couple of tours was scheduled for this day and there were no mandatory exercises. Nevertheless, it was a good day to reflect and I personally took the exercise of thinking about what happened during these seven days. An exercise similar to the "check-out" suggested by Solvpilen: what is the main point you are taking with you after this training? However, instead of taking a couple of minutes to answer, this was set to take all day. It was a long exercise but I needed it and, at the end, it clearly felt rewarding.
CREATE 2010: Visit to Sintef Energy
By Sari Sirviö
In the presentation I learned that Norway's electicity production is based on hydroenery and off-coast windenergy. Large amount of electriciy is used to warm houses. Still, most of the electricity is produced by hydroenergy by harnessing rivers. The upside is that the produced electricity is cheap and has low emissions. The downside is that the landscape is modified and gridlines are built. People don´t like this and raise their voices.
CREATE 2010: Day 5 - When we became active listeners
By Anikó Várnai
Another weekend passed. But somehow this was different. A Create weekend. Could you describe it with 1-3 words? If yes, you’re ready to check in and join us to learn more about how to become a team member. Yes, today in the morning we went back till the 60’s when JFK showed us there is always space for self-criticism to improve and later in the afternoon we even got to know how Barack Obama’s personal charm motivates people.
CREATE 2010: Day 4 with all the "thingy" stuff
By Rocio Santiago
After some sleep (not much really due to different reasons), we were on our way in what I would call "become a movie character, carbon miner and a sailor in very easy steps and just in one day!".
We divided into two groups:
- 1st group: the unlucky one. Got to be at the bus at 08.45h to start the boat trip
- 2nd group: the lucky ones. Got to be at the bus at 10.45h to start the train trip
and started our separate journeys switching trips after having lunch all together.
CREATE 2010: "How CREATE affected us" from the point of view of the fabulous four
By Jitka Odehnalova, Paola Cocca, Claudia Morsut and Galit Nimrod
If it wasn't for CREATE, I wouldn't have….
"… acquired such a level of courage to finalize the design of my Ph.D. research project" (Jitka Odehnalova, Czech Republic)
"… developed the determination to be my own project manager" (Paola Cocca, Italy)
"… realized that I have the qualities to become a project leader" (Claudia Morsut, Italy/Norway)
"… established a research group of 110 scholars from all over the world" (Galit Nimrod, Israel)
Who are what the organizers of CREATE call "the fabulous four"?
Create 2010: Fly me to the moon and back
By Arto Wallin
First full day of Create 4 training course is behind and the second one is starting. We sit at hotel’s restaurant eating buffet breakfast, once again with new people in the same table. We discuss about cultural differences, professional interests and many other things. I feel that one of the main expectations for the event, getting to know new interesting people, has had an excellent start.
CREATE 2010 - Day 2
By Hans Hermeler
After a short night that didn’t really qualify for a night because it didn’t get dark we started our first day of the CREATE event. After the formal opening by the coordinators of the event we got a presentation by Ingeborg Lund, who is the HR manager at Sintef (The host organization for this event in Trondheim).
CREATE 2010: The girl from the south explores the north
By Sabine Salzmann
Wednesday morning: 4 am ... piep, piep - what an annoying noise? piep, piep - just 5 more minutes, PLEASE! But, wait! Today is no working day, it`s a day of travelling. So get up Sabine and start your journey!
Carrying the luggage I walk kind of remote controlled to the train station. The train brings me to Vienna - Autrias capital city. From there I start my flying-marathon. Since I am not used to fly, I am very excited to get all things done in the right time! I have more flights on one day than summed up all from my last years!
