Young European Associated Researchers
YEAR is a network organisation consisting of networks of young researchers in European research and technology organisations (RTOs), and Industrial Research bodies. No single researchers are members of YEAR, but instead organisations represented by their young and/or beginning employees. It was established in order to encourage cross-border and inter-disciplinary creativity and alliances within Europe among young European researchers. YEAR aims at facilitating exchange of ideas, best practises and people, that may help to break down national and cultural barriers and structure the European Research Area (ERA).
YEAR has officialy been founded on 17th February 2007 in Udine, Italy. Founding members are EIDON, JOANNEUM RESEARCH, SINTEF, TNO, VITO, VTT.
The goal of YEAR is to enhance the potential and the capabilities of the ERA by increased exchange of ideas and contacts, and by that the European long-term competitiveness. The sharing of best practices is as important as the development of technical abilities. YEAR is envisaged to function as one of the missing links between organisations performing research. The direct contact between researchers is seen as equally important as the top-level contact between the researchers' respective organisations.
